Bike Play Auditions!

When are auditions?

Auditions are March 14, 2026 1pm - 3pm.

This year’s show will run June 11-14 and 18-20, 2026. Rehearsals begin in March.

When is Bike Play?

Bike Play is both an original theater production AND a Pedalpalooza / Bike Summer bicycle ride.  Audience members show up to a location (on bikes) and follow actors (also on bikes) from scene to scene watching a play unfold across Portland’s beautiful parks, schools, and green spaces.  Every year we create a brand new show with original writing, choreography, and music. Please take a look through our Instagram @bikeplay and website bikeplaypdx.com for an idea of what we do if you are unfamiliar.

What is Bike Play?

What is Pedalpalooza / Bike Summer?

What rock have you been living under? Pedalpalooza, also known as Bike Summer, is an entire summer’s worth of wonderful bike rides that has become a Portland institution.

What is the time commitment / rehearsal schedule?

-Bike Play is a large time commitment. We operate much like a professional theater company. This means rehearsals and shows will eat up some Pedalpalooza evenings and your Spring.

-We begin rehearsals in March starting with weekly meetings, increasing to twice weekly at the end of the month through mid-April. In mid-April we will begin meeting three times weekly. In May we will meet four times weekly. In June we will meet most days leading up the show.

-Rehearsals are typically in the evening from 6-9 or so on weekdays and 1-3 or so on weekends.

-We all have lives and we can work with your schedule if you can’t make every rehearsal. You must be available for every show.

What are we looking for in a new cast mate?

-Someone who can create, work, and play well with others. Someone who can collaborate.  Devised theater requires an openness to hear others’ ideas and a willingness to contribute your own without ego.

-Someone with public performance experience, ideally stage acting experience. Outdoor theater is a huge plus! Experience in dancing / singing / writing / comedy / improv would be a double plus but is by no means a prerequisite.

-Someone who can be LOUD!!! You MUST be able to project your voice loudly outdoors. We do not use microphones and your voice must be able to carry.

-Someone who is not afraid to be silly in public spaces. We do goofy vocal warmups, we practice dances, we do strange physical warmups and improv games, all outdoors in the public eye. During shows, we routinely draw audiences of several hundred people.

-Someone that feels comfortable riding a bike, even in large bike ride events. Our routes are generally as gentle as possible, but there may be hills and street crossings.

-Someone who has endurance to ride, act, dance, sing, and play outside, rain or shine.

Yes. Bike Play has a RACC grant that will offer a stipend and we also solicit donations from our audience and they tend to be generous. You can expect to take home $400+.
